CEDAR credited on Star Wars Episode 1 (The Phantom Menace)
New York's Merlin Studios has used its full complement of CEDAR Series X modules to process dialogue for a CDROM to accompany educational materials published by Lucas Books. Studio owner, Paul Goodrich, told us that he removed ambient noise and various machine noises from dialogue cut together from a wide variety of sources. These included scenes shot in the desert as well as studio recordings.
Furthermore, we are pleased to report that CEDAR has again been credited on a Star Wars film, with credits on "Episode 1: The Phantom Menace" as well as in the book "The Making of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace".
Note:
Two years ago we were proud to announce that LucasFilm had used a pair of CEDAR DH-1 Dehissers to restore dialogue, music and sound effects for the Special Edition releases of the Star Wars trilogy. The care taken cleaning up the original '70s and early-'80s soundtracks on Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return Of The Jedi resulted in Skywalker Sound receiving the 1998 CEDAR Award for in the category of 'Post Production of a Film Soundtrack'.
The DH-1s at Skywalker Range, CA and the DCX, CRX and DHX modules at Merlin Studios in NY were supplied by Fraser Jones of CEDAR Audio USA.
