CEDAR Audio cleans up the British General Election

31 May 2001

ITN has installed a CEDAR DNS1000 Dynamic Noise Suppressor to use in numerous projects including the results coverage of the General Election on 7th June 2001.

Four years ago, ITN hired a CEDAR HISS-2 System for its General Election coverage, which was presented live from the floor of the famous Atrium in ITN's headquarters in Gray's Inn Road, London. This open area, a ten floor void, was not designed to provide studio-quality acoustics and, before installing the CEDAR System, ITN found that ambient noise, especially air-conditioning rumble, was severely degrading the sound quality of the rehearsals.

In 2001, the coverage will again be broadcast live from the Atrium, despite additional problems that include cooling fan noise from banks of large LED screens, a plasma screen, lighting dimmers, and reverberation in the '3D virtual reality' suite. So, this year, ITN has chosen to use a CEDAR DNS1000 for the election coverage. With virtually zero latency, the DNS1000 is designed to remove unwanted noise from live presentations, location sound and dialogue, so it is ideal for use in this type of situation.

CEDAR's Marketing Manager, Deborah Coral explains, "ITN's Sound Supervisors were very pleased with the setup speed and the remarkable acoustic improvement afforded by the DNS1000. We are pleased that ITN chose to purchase a DNS1000 and to involve CEDAR in another historic broadcast."
