CEDAR Audio announces CEDAR Asia

... dedicated to the countries and cultures of South East Asia

6 April 2001

After a decade of sales and support from the UK to Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea, CEDAR Audio has established its first Asian office: CEDAR Asia. Based in Bangkok, CEDAR Asia has excellent communications and travel links with all the countries in the region. It will act as a contact centre for CEDAR's customers in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

CEDAR Audio has appointed David Robinson, a leading figure in the South East Asian pro-audio community, to head CEDAR Asia. He becomes CEDAR's representative in the region with immediate effect. Robinson will further develop CEDAR's dealer network in South East Asia and China, and will soon announce appointments in Hong Kong, The Philippines and China itself. These will be in addition to CEDAR's existing dealers in Singapore, Thailand and Korea.

CEDAR's Managing Director, Gordon Reid, says, "You can't imagine how excited I am about this. Starting out as a tiny academic project just 12 years ago, CEDAR now boasts offices in the USA, the UK and Asia, as well as dealerships in just about every industrialised nation on the planet. It's an amazing achievement, and everybody involved can justifiably feel very proud. With a healthy market in Asia, and excellent representation in the person of David Robinson, I can only see CEDAR Asia making the CEDAR name an even stronger brand worldwide."

David Robinson: Biography

David Robinson studied Electronic Engineering at Napier College of Science and Technology in Edinburgh, Scotland, before joining UK defence contractor, Ferranti. He spent six years with the company, working on inertial guidance systems, RADAR and electro-optical systems. He then entered the oil industry in Aberdeen with Science Systems, helping to design and develop hardware systems for clients such as Shell Oil. After joining Dresser Atlas, Robinson moved first to Houston, Texas, before being posted to India and then to Italy as the company's Senior Maintenance Engineer for that location. Robinson was later transferred to Malaysia and Indonesia, and prior to his transfer back to Scotland, he operated as Asian Regional Relief Engineer.

Having fallen in love with the region, Robinson left the renamed Western Atlas after six years to return to South East Asia, later joining Singapore-based pro-audio distributor, AUVI. An active musician since his childhood, Robinson initially handled the sales and support of products such as Tascam and Augan in Singapore. Two years after AUVI took on Soundscape Digital in 1995, Robinson moved across to the manufacturer to develop the brand throughout South East Asia. In addition to his technical support and distributor development duties, he organised Soundscape's marketing, seminars, and trade shows in the region. This brought him into contact with professionals in the broadcast, studio, post and mastering industries across Asia.

Robinson brings a wealth of experience to CEDAR Asia. As a European who has lived in India, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand for more than fifteen years, he has the background to understand the culture and needs of his clients. Furthermore, with a broad-based engineering background, extensive experience of critical system hardware design and maintenance, and a full understanding of the needs of pro-audio professionals, he is in a perfect position to support CEDAR dealers and end-users.
